The Creator Store

The Creator Store is where creators share what they make. Everything in it is free to use in your games. It has three kinds of assets:

KindWhat it isMade in
ModelsA group of parts (and any scripts and decals inside it) you can drop into a placePolycarbonate
DecalsA picture you can put on a partDecals page
AudioA short sound clipAudio page

You find the store on the hub's Creator Store page, and inside Polycarbonate in the Toolbox.

Asset pages

Every model, decal and sound has its own page, reached by clicking its tile in the store. The page shows the picture or a player, the description, who made it, how many times it was inserted and saved, and these buttons:

  • Like / Dislike: one vote each per account. Click your vote again to take it back. You can't rate your own things.
  • Get: saves the asset to your library. It then shows up under the Saved tab of Polycarbonate's Toolbox, ready to insert, even after you close the browser. Press the button again (it reads In your library ยท Remove) to drop it. A library holds up to 500 things. If the creator later makes the asset private, it leaves your library's list too.
  • Report: sends it to the moderators. One open report per asset per person.
  • Manage (creators only): jumps to the hub list for that kind.

Using assets

In Polycarbonate, open the Toolbox and pick a tab: Store (everything shared), Saved (what you got), Mine (what you made) and Local (models saved on your computer). Type in the search box to search names, tags and creators, and switch between New and Popular. The ready-made example scripts (teleporter pad, hazard, coin spawner and the like) are deprecated and no longer offered in the menus; use models from the store instead. Scripts already in your games keep working.

  • Models: click Insert. The model lands where the camera points, flush on the surface under the cursor, and stays selected so you can move it right away.
  • Decals: select a part first, then click Insert. The decal is added to that part with its picture already set. With nothing selected it becomes a free-standing sign.
  • Audio: click the play button to listen, then Insert to add a Sound with the clip already set.

Anything in the store can also be used by id: a decal's texture is decal/<id> and a sound's id is sound/<id>. Every tile on the store page shows the id with a copy button.

Look before you trust. A model can contain scripts, which run in your game. Models that do carry a Scripts badge in the Toolbox and on the store page. Open the model's scripts in the Explorer and read them before you publish a game that uses one.

Sharing your own

Everything you make starts private: it is not in the store, and only you see its page.

  • Publish a model: select parts in Polycarbonate and press the globe button at the top of the Toolbox (Publish selection as model). Name it, add a description and tags, and tick List in the Creator Store if you want others to find it. Studz draws a picture of it for you.
  • Decals and audio: upload them on the hub.
  • Manage them on the hub. The Models, Decals and Audio pages list everything you made. Press Edit to change an asset's name and description (and a model's tags), Make public or Make private to change its visibility, Open page to see it the way others do, or Delete. Each row shows its likes, dislikes, saves and inserts.
  • Take it back any time. Making an asset private removes it from search straight away. Games that already use a decal or sound you made private keep working, because the assets themselves stay put; deleting one removes it for everybody, including from their libraries.

The Mine tab in the Toolbox shows the same list inside Polycarbonate, and can switch an asset between public and private.

Rules

Only share what you have the right to share. Don't upload other people's music, art or models, anything hateful or sexual, or anything meant to harm the people who use it (a model with a script that wrecks games, for instance). Every asset has a Report button, and moderators can take an asset down.
